The Diva: Kelly Carpenter
Kelly Carpenter was born and raised in Washington, DC. From a very early age it was apparent that the stage was where Kelly would end up and at the ripe age of 10 she began her professional singing, dancing and acting career at Maryland’s Olney Theatre in Dennis the Menace. She has sung in revues, musicals and with bands all over the world. Venues include the Kennedy Center, theatres from Maryland and Arizona to New York City and Michigan, plus cruise ships in the Caribbean, the Pacific, Alaska, and Europe. Some of her more notable credits include starring in the Kennedy Center Young Players, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, My Way – a Tribute to Frank Sinatra, Always...Patsy Cline (twice) and more recently, played Mrs. Claus in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in New York City for a 5 year stint. In early 2006, she joined "Soul Be It," a 13-piece funk and soul band that played the songs of Tower of Power, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, and many more. Joining the band forced her to leave her comfort zone, she challenged herself by performing new vocal stylings and performance techniques in Long Island, Manhattan and Atlantic City. Now her versatility in performing virtually any style from opera to soulful blues leaves her in constant demand for studio recording sessions, as well a vocal teacher and clinician throughout the New York City music scene.
